In the interview below, we present the Homey project by Property Investment, one of the companies taking part in STEP-IN-UP. This programme was created with the aim of strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the cross-border area within the green and blue economy supply chains, by supporting the growth of startups in the sector.
The initiative is co-funded under the Interreg Italy-France Maritime 2014–2020 Programme and involves the participation of the Polo Tecnologico di Lucca, the Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie Nice Côte d’Azur, and the Fondazione ISI of Pisa.
What does Homey do?
HOMEY, an American slang term used to describe a “welcoming” home, is a startup created to develop a new concept of tourist hospitality.
This hospitality model is based on new travel trends in terms of technology and professionalism, as well as on the transformation of the international hospitality market: a transformation that has taken place in recent years and has been driven by changes in travellers’ purchasing habits, increasingly oriented towards accommodation facilities that offer a hospitality and management model comparable to hotels, while preserving all the comfort of non-hotel accommodation, such as private holiday homes, guest houses, and villas.
Why did you apply to the STEp-IN-UP call?
The hospitality industry is constantly evolving and requires increasingly high standards of service. Today, demand for eco-friendly accommodation, nature-based experiences, and environmentally conscious destinations is growing strongly, yet it often meets an inadequate, fragmented, and poorly professionalized offer.
The objective of our participation in the call is to activate new tools for the research and selection of these experiences, with particular attention to “slow tourism”. Furthermore, analysing the development of the project within the target areas of the call will be fundamental.
What are your expectations for the future?
Considering the new trends in tourism, we aim to increasingly meet the needs of new generations of travellers, with a specific focus on environmental awareness and on the values and sensitivities of both current and future target audiences for our proposals.
